I don’t know about you, but I ALWAYS have a sweet tooth, but for some people, that’s not always true. Except maybe when they drink coffee.
Studies show that the caffeine in coffee can change some peoples taste, which makes them crave sweets. The caffeine makes it so sweets taste less sweet, so people are more willing to eat them.
In the study, they had two groups: one group received a cup of coffee with a high caffeine content, while the other received decaf. At one point in the study, the participants were asked to add sugar to their cups and rate the sweetness of their drinks. The group with caffeinated coffee claimed their cup was less sweet than the decaf group, even though they added the same amount of sugar to their cups.
This lack of taste is due to the fact that caffeine blocks a chemical in our brain called adenosine, which helps modulate our sense of taste. This is why caffeine will alter our taste buds temporarily, and why you might CRAVE a sugary donut with your morning cup of Joe.
