10 POINTS FOR STYLE
What's the one place every person will go to at least once in a month? Give up?
The hair salon or barber.
This week, we sat in the chair of Style Points Salon owner, Kerri Moore. We set out to learn more about her, her business and her connection to SF Bay Coffee.
Why did this type of work interest you and how did you get started?
Hairdressing runs in my family, it's all I ever wanted to do since my childhood!
What are the most important personal satisfactions connected with your occupation?
I love the people interaction. A hairstylist is a confidant, we learn about our clients inside and out, and today hairdressing is one of the few professions that you can still touch people.
What part of your job do you personally find most satisfying? Most challenging?
It is a very satisfying feeling when you see your client smile and you watch their confidence level increase! Hair is a very important part of us, it's one of our first impressions.
The most challenging part of my career is time management. There are never enough hours in a day to get it all done.
What do you like and not like about working in this industry?
I truly love my industry. It's constantly changing, it is full of extremely creative people and I get to travel the globe to learn new and exciting trends. I have been doing hair for 28 years and there has never been a dull moment. "If you're bored in this industry, it's your fault", wise words from one of my favorite mentors!
Probably, other than extremely tangled hair, lol, my dislike of the industry is the late hours. A lot of our clients work and can only come in at night, so it can make for a long day, but seriously our salon moves at such a fun pace that the day ends before you know it. It's just tough for all our families.
THE PERSONAL STUFF
I have been married for 15 years, but together with my husband for 23 years. We met on a trail in Vermont and from that moment on we've led a life of backpacking. From section hiking the Appalachian Trail, to days on end of living out of our packs in distant places like New Zealand, Alaska and Hawaii.
Today we still like to travel, and backpack and our latest adventure is overlanding. Kinda like backpacking, but we use our Jeep to take us to even more remote locations.
Are you involved in any community organizations ?
Style Points Salon is a community-focused small business. We do a lot of food drives and fundraisers for our local shelters, we participate, as a salon, in charity mud runs and 24 hour relays. Our motto is "Making a Difference in Style".
Who is your role model, and why?
My Mom is my role model, she has always been. She's one tough cookie! She has shown me the importance of independence, of strength, and of making a difference in the lives of others.
What's your superpower, or what's your spirit animal?
My Vizsla dog is my spirit animal. Her and I are one and the same. We're very loyal, we both love being outdoors, we love to run and we truly love people and all animals.
Let's Talk Coffee
When choosing a coffee, what are the 3 most important factors to you?
We look for family businesses to support when purchasing for our salon. When choosing coffee we try always to support companies that believe in;
- Fair trade
- Environmentally friendly
- Giving back
What led you to choose SF Bay Coffee for your business?
We were so fortunate to have found SF Bay Coffee, what first led us to you is your environmentally friendly one cup!
Our favorite coffee is Organic Rainforest and our clients and stylists alike vote for the Hazelnut creme.
A penguin walks through your door wearing a sombrero and he says:
"Why fit in when you were born to stand out!"
